Trail Shoes:  You can't just use any old trainers for this run.  You need trail shoes.  These have features that make them hopeless for running on roads, but ideal for the desert.  They have protection on the toes and a whole range of features to protect the feet like extra cushioning and "rockstop" for when the going gets touch.  And I will need gaiters because the sand gets everywhere!  The MdS official shoes is the NB 1100, but there might be others that are as good or even better.
